Mobility Initiative Zurich – why Speed 50 is not progress

Realistic street scene: An SUV brakes while a girl with a backpack crosses the street. Clearly marked braking distances show the difference between 30 km/h (green) and 50 km/h (red).

The so-called mobility initiative again demands a speed limit of 50 on main roads – a step back for safety and sustainability. At a speed limit of 30, the braking distance is halved, accidents become less frequent and car sharing saves space, energy and emissions.
