Bridges to Mobility...

SOB Chronicles

Rent a car in Herisau.

The SOB Herisau travel centre offers customers comprehensive advice that covers ticket purchase as well as money transfer and long-distance travel. The goal is to promote a positive and appreciative corporate culture that includes modern leadership principles and fair employment conditions. This should sustainably ensure both employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction.

As an innovation partner, SOB takes on a significant role in the Swiss public transport landscape. Therefore, we actively support our partners in the development of transport services, the planning of infrastructure projects, and the implementation of creative solutions in the area of connected mobility. This is also reflected in the attractive connections we operate with modern rolling stock both in the German-speaking part of Switzerland and in the southern part of Switzerland.

SOB is known for its extraordinary routes, which include the long-distance lines Treno Gottardo and Aare Linth as well as regional traffic on the Voralpen Express and the S-Bahn lines. Its employees work daily to inspire customers with a reliable and comfortable travel experience.

A distinctive feature of the SOB rail network is the numerous works of art, which shape the route network in a unique way. Among them is, for example, the highest railway bridge in Switzerland, the Sitter Viaduct near St. Gallen, which impresses with a height of 99 meters and a length of 365 meters. Works of art make up one eighth of the entire rail network: 192 bridges span a total of 6 kilometers, while 19 tunnels traverse mountains over a length of 7.1 kilometers. The maximum gradient of 50 per mille between Lake Zurich, Biberbrugg and Arth-Goldau makes the SOB both a challenging and fascinating railway line, which scores with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. This provides passengers with an unforgettable experience that makes the hearts of nature lovers beat faster and also impresses technology enthusiasts.
