


Carsharing in Kandersteg. Kandersteg, the extremely charming mountain village in the Bernese Oberland, impresses with its pristine nature and impressive mountain scenery. It is situated at about 1,200 metres and offers a spectacular Alpine backdrop. It attracts numerous visitors annually. Kandersteg is especially known for the Oeschinen Lake. It belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage site Jungfrau-Aletsch. Both in summer and winter it captivates hikers, skiers and nature lovers.
Historically the municipality of Kandersteg back to the Middle Ages. The first mention comes from the year 1352. Over centuries the inhabitants lived from agriculture and cattle trade. But with the construction of the Lötschberg railway in 1913 many things changed. The railway brought tourists to the region and made the village more famous. Today holiday guests from all over the world and culture visit the municipality of Kandersteg.
The place also has a lot to offer culinarily. The traditional Bernese cuisine is evident in the many restaurants and mountain huts. Here, specialties such as „Berner Oberländer Rösti“ – crispy potatoes, often baked with cheese or with a fried egg. Equally popular is the „Alpkäse“. These spicy, aged cheeses are produced by farmers on the alpine pastures around Kandersteg.
A special attraction is the international Scout Centre. Already founded in 1923, it is unique worldwide. Every year thousands of young people from all continents flow to Kandersteg. They seek adventure, learn about other cultures and experience the values of the scouts. The centre shapes Kandersteg's culture. It gives the village an international flair that both locals as well as locals equally inspire.
